GIVE ME A DRINK

Jesus, being tired after his journey,
was resting by the fountain of Jacob's
well. A woman of Samaria came to get
water, and Jesus said to her, Give me
some water.

LIVING WATER

The woman of Samaria said to him, Why
do you, a Jew, make a request for water
to me, a woman of Samaria? She said
this because Jews have nothing to do
with the people of Samaria. Despite
knowing what kind of a woman she is,
Jesus compliments her by saying “If
you knew the gift of God you would ask
me for living water”. She has no idea he
is not talking about ordinary water. His
living water will be like a spring inside
her leading to eternal life.

TRUE WORSHIP

Her sin exposed, she changes the
subject to a theological debate about
WHERE to worship God, Mount Gerazim
(Samaritans) or Jerusalem (Jews). God
the Father is seeking true worshippers in
“spirit and in truth”. She thinks of
Messiah coming. Jesus tells her “I am he”.

COME AND SEE

She leaves to find the men and brings
them back to Jesus. They ask him to
stay and after two days many believed
in him not just through the woman’s
testimony but because they heard
Jesus themselves.

FIVE HUSBANDS

She requests “give me this water”
He commands “go call your husband”
Jesus said to her, You have said
rightly, I have no husband: You have
had five husbands, and the man you
have now is not your husband: that
was truly said.
